The US Pharmacopeia (USP) is an independent, scientific nonprofit organization focused on building trust in the supply of safe, quality medicines. They publish standards that outline best practices for pharmacies to follow when producing different types of medication.
USP <795> covers the compounding of Nonsterile Preparations and helps reduce risks such as contamination, infection or incorrect dosing
USP <797> covers compounding of Sterile Preparations and include those administered through injection and/or intravenous infusion (IV). The standard incorporates safeguards to ensure medications are at the appropriate dosing strength and not contaminated.
USP <800> provides standards for safe handling of hazardous drugs to minimize the risk of exposure to healthcare personnel, patients and the environment. This includes requirements for physical separation of areas used for compounding hazardous (hormones, chemo medications) and non-hazardous (GLP-1s, IV Vitamins) medications.
Quality Compounding Rx of America is a 503A pharmacy and produces only patient specific medications intended for individualized treatment plans. We cannot provide any products intended for office use. In contrast, 503B facilities produce bulk medications that can be used for multiple patients. There are a limited number of 503B facilities in the country and delivery times can vary. For most offices, the personalized service offered by a 503A pharmacy allows for the most efficient management of patient care.
